Install Korean language support, handle antivirus warnings safely, and run the RagnaKon patcher with the permissions it needs.

Client Setup & First Launch

Before creating your first character, complete these Windows setup steps. They help prevent tiny or broken client text, patching permission errors, and antivirus-related missing files.

Recommended setup order:
Install Korean language support → restart Windows → confirm your client came from the official RagnaKon download → add an antivirus exception only if needed → run the RagnaKon Patcher as Administrator → let the patcher fully update.

1. Install Korean Language Support

Open Language Settings

Ragnarok still uses Korean-language resources in parts of the client. Without the required Windows language components, some text can appear unusually small, broken, or incorrectly displayed.

Settings → Time & language → Language & region

Add Korean

Choose Add a language, search for Korean (한국어), and install its language components.

You do not need to change your Windows display language. Keep English or your normal display language selected.

Restart Windows

Restarting after the language components are installed is recommended before launching RagnaKon for the first time.

Common symptom: if Ragnarok text looks extremely small or some characters do not render correctly, check Korean language support first.

2. Windows Security / Antivirus

Custom Ragnarok clients and patchers modify or replace game files while updating. Because of this behavior, Windows Security or third-party antivirus software may sometimes block or quarantine a RagnaKon file.

Do not blindly allow a detected file. Only restore or exclude RagnaKon files after confirming that your client was downloaded from the official RagnaKon source. Do not disable your antivirus completely.

Check Protection History

If the patcher suddenly loses a file or the game stops launching after an antivirus notification, check whether Windows Security quarantined it.

Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history

Add the Game Folder as an Exclusion

If you trust the official RagnaKon installation and Windows Security is repeatedly removing required files, add the RagnaKon folder as an exclusion.

Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions → Add or remove exclusions → Add an exclusion → Folder

Patch Again

After restoring a trusted quarantined file or adding the folder exception, run the patcher again so missing or outdated files can be replaced.

3. Run the RagnaKon Patcher as Administrator

Always start RagnaKon through the RagnaKon Patcher. Running it as Administrator helps Windows allow the patcher to update and replace files inside the game folder.

Right-click the Patcher

Right-click the RagnaKon Patcher executable and choose Run as administrator.

Let Patching Finish

Wait until the patcher has finished checking and downloading updates before pressing Start.

Make It Permanent

You can configure Windows to always launch the patcher with Administrator privileges.

Right-click Patcher → Properties → Compatibility → Run this program as an administrator

First Launch Checklist

✓ Korean language support installed

✓ Windows restarted after language installation

✓ Client downloaded from the official RagnaKon source

✓ Antivirus exclusion added only if required

✓ RagnaKon Patcher running as Administrator

✓ Patcher fully finished before pressing Start

Quick Troubleshooting

Text is tiny or looks broken

Confirm Korean language support is installed, restart Windows, and launch the client again.

Patcher cannot update files

Close it and reopen the RagnaKon Patcher with Run as administrator.

Game file suddenly disappeared

Check Windows Security / antivirus quarantine history. Restore a file only after confirming it belongs to your official RagnaKon installation, then patch again.

Antivirus keeps removing patched files

If you trust the official installation, add the entire RagnaKon game folder as an exclusion instead of disabling antivirus protection globally.

If you downloaded the client from an unofficial mirror, another player, or an unknown archive, do not whitelist it just because it claims to be RagnaKon. Download a clean client from the official RagnaKon source instead.
